A Guide to the Theme Parks of Orlando
by
Lenita Carpinello

One of the most visited destinations on earth when it comes to family holidays is Orlando in central Florida. A major part of its popularity lies with the fact that it is home to several of the most well-known theme parks in the world, including, of course, Disney World.

As well as Walt Disney World, Orlando is also home to the Universal Orlando Resort, and SeaWorld Orlando. These theme parks, and the availability of easy package holidays to the area, have helped to make Orlando the third most visited city in the whole of the US.

Walt Disney World is not located in the centre of Orlando, but twenty one miles to the south in a city called Lake Buena Vista. This famous resort is not only the biggest themed resort in the world, but is also the biggest in the world, attracting families from all over the world.

The Walt Disney World resort is composed of some four theme parks, two water parks, and 32 on site hotels, 24 of which are themed, and owned by Disney. In addition, there are five golf courses within the property.

Walt Disney World is basically an expansion of the idea originally realized with the creation of Disneyland in California. While Disneyland was designed to provide a good day out, Disney World is aimed at providing enough entertainment for an entire vacation, and indeed many families who visit the Greater Orlando area spend most of their time in Disney World.

One of the most popular Orlando theme parks besides Walt Disney World is the Universal Orlando Resort. This is almost as big as Walt Disney World and contains two major parks. The Universal Islands of Adventure have 7 different islands to explore, while Universal Studios Florida has a movie theme.

The concept of Universal Studios Florida is that visitors get to ride the movies, with many of the attractions like interactive film sets, such as the Men in Black Alien Attack ride. Shopping and dining facilities are also included within the resort.

The third most popular resort in Orland is SeaWorld Orlando. This is a wonderful marine park as well as a theme park, and it is designed to offer an alternative to the thrill rides and film tie ins of Universal and Disney, focusing on allowing children to experience some of the most fascinating marine creatures on earth.

Our guide to the unique theme parks of Orlando was written by Lenita Carpinello, a professional travel guide. They recommend checking the Octopus Travel website for the latest deals on
Orlando hotels, flights and Disney package holidays all year round.
